nixtieq li kont hawn (wish you were here), 2022

Lenticular prints, aluminium frame, LED lights

60 x 160 cm

This work was developed on Kaurna Country

Location: DB7-05

nixtieq li kont hawn (wish you were here) is an extension of a moving image work, created earlier this year titled Passage. Passage brings together footage from Malta, Backstairs Passage (South Australia) and archival footage from Magna Żmien, a grassroots project advocating for the digitisation and preservation of Maltese home audio-visual collections to form a community archive.

In this work, Teresa reflects on passages of time and passages of water in her late father’s life. Born on the small Mediterranean island of Malta, he migrated to South Australia by boat, living his adult life as a diver and fisherman.

nixtieq li kont hawn (wish you were here), an installation of two lenticular light boxes each displaying four intersecting images taken from Passage, features boats and the ocean across time and place. Focusing on the movement of people, it requires the viewer to move around the room for the work to reveal itself in full.
