Lady champion manifests through collaborative practices, reflection and collection of archival family photographs and screen printing. Deacon’s intention lays in the desire to develop her personal understanding of feminism through her maternal lineage as well as feminist discourse and its respective artists and scholars. Through conversing with family members, reviewing family archives and screen printing, Deacon has developed a feminist methodology established through collaboration and intergenerational exchange. The use of screen printing in the production of Lady Champion is significant due to the method’s close relation to political and societal issues. Deacon’s practice has been deeply inspired by the works of Ann Newmarch, Barbara Kruger, Guerrilla Girls, Lorna Simpson, Liza Lou and Sigma Polka. Deacon anticipates further development of her work through engagement with her paternal lineage and feminist discourse.
