Hello yellow seeks to replicate Rebecca Alderson’s most familiar home studio objects in brilliant yellow cotton, reflecting her sentiments on the notions of self, identity, space and place. She desires to draw attention to the aspects of our life that we see but generally overlook. Her work uses textiles and soft sculpture to represent the comfort and joy felt within that space. Alderson's work investigates the notion of a self-portrait via objects, focusing on the elements that comprise her outer identity. Her purpose with the installation is to reveal the authentic self; her work reflects the turmoil of her studio and the chaos or clutter surrounding it. Small items such as door plugs and switches are on display, as are full-scale reconstructions of items like desks and lamps. “Can I clearly be seen within the space?” Alderson asks, challenging the role of her art and wondering if her audience will become more familiar with her identity.
