Subject to structure is a sculptural installation that studies the tension between structure and space. The connection between contemporary architecture and sculpture has motivated this enquiry. It is made clear through the work that the interaction of these disciplines (their practices, processes, conceptual concerns, and respective materials) generates new approaches to the design of structures and spaces. The work is an outcome of this fusion and through an intense examination of public and private spaces, urban landscapes and construction sites, aims to subvert the ordinary function of contemporary architecture. Uninhabitable, yet aesthetically architectural, the installation exists objectively for the viewer to look at, critique and perhaps reimagine the paradigms of structure and space.
