Georgia Fox’s practice over the last year has looked at the wide and diverse community that is the autistic spectrum while using abstract expressionism to visually explore the autistic spectrum. Fox started this project due to a strong want to learn, understand and accept herself as an autistic woman. Drawing on her own experience, she always had an extremely tricky and complicated relationship with her autistic self. She often didn’t relate to, or see, any positive depictions of autism or feel like there was much awareness of the autistic experience when growing up.

This work visually expresses the autistic spectrum as an extremely diverse group of people that have different needs, challenges and strengths but relate to each other. This was important to share as autism is often showed to be one specific way, but the reality is it is a diverse spectrum with many different experiences. Being in a public space, this work hopes to challenge and create conversations within viewers to be more aware of the autistic experience and how that is different for each person who is autistic.
