Danyang’s practice-based research explores the dual identity of expatriate Chinese, which reminds her of childhood and the upheaval of the modern world. This inspires her to combine elements of the past to create new histories and imagine future archaeologies of the present. This inspires nostalgia and imagination for the future. The content of this work is also a snapshot of her past and present life, from childhood memories of her hometown to the age of technology. It contains her ideas of home, and ideas of belonging and identity. She took the shape of a porcelain vase and reproduced mass-produced circuit patterns. The rise of blue and white porcelain is linked to the culture of Danyang’s hometown and childhood memories. Her work demonstrates that the combination of future or contemporary art with traditional elements can act as a bridge between the present and the past, bringing a new form of creativity that inspires fantasy and spirituality.
