Chris’ interest in nature and concern for the future of local and global environments took her on a journey of exploration through artistic practices and environmental artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Richard Bell, Jahnne Pasco-White and Chris De Rosa. Intaglio printmakers such as Mike Parr, Dianne Longley and Henrik Boegh, among others led her to non-toxic print options. After establishing an environmentally safe printing studio at home she explored a range of intaglio processes.

Experimenting with etching, aquatint, marbling, resist, chine collet, various papers and inks, multiple images and collage, resulted in a range of images focusing on leafy and weedy sea dragons and sponges. These hidden treasures of Yankalilla Bay are found in reefs and under jetties. Their best defence is camouflage amongst sea grasses, sponges and rocks. This environmental fragility is reflected in the fragility of the printing process and materials used.  Through each stage of printmaking interactions between inks and papers invite instability and surprise.
